Followers can pay a creator on Brillay with a supported prepaid payment card that has sufficient funds. Creators generally cannot use a prepaid card itself as their payout destination: Stripe requires a bank account or, where eligible, a non-prepaid US-issued Visa, Mastercard, or Discover debit card. Tips let followers send a one-time thank-you, with nothing for you to deliver and no membership for them to join.
Can a follower pay you with a prepaid card?
An eligible prepaid card works at checkout the same as any other supported card: the follower pays upfront, in full. Store-only gift cards should not be assumed to work. The creator’s payout destination is separate and generally cannot be the prepaid card itself; Stripe describes stored-value and prepaid cards as payment cards (Stripe Support).
An eligible open-loop prepaid card can cover a Brillay purchase when it has enough available balance. Followers pay upfront; you can decline a request. This lets a follower use an eligible prepaid card for a one-time Tip, Paid Question, Personalized Video, or another fixed-price offer on your Brillay page.
You do not need a large audience or platform approval: Brillay has no follower minimum (pricing), and a follower can buy directly from your link when Stripe supports the card and it has enough available balance. You set a clear price for each offer—for example, a $5 Paid Question, a $35 Personalized Video, or a $3 Tip—so followers can decide without negotiating in DMs.
Can you receive creator payouts on a prepaid card?
Generally, no—not when the payout destination is the prepaid card itself. Stripe states that a debit card used as a payout account “must be a non-prepaid Visa, Mastercard, or Discover card issued by a bank in the United States” (source: Stripe Connect payout documentation).
That policy directly excludes prepaid debit cards from Stripe’s documented debit-card payout option.
Creators connect a supported payout account during Stripe onboarding (how Brillay works); confirm in Brillay whether your country and account type are eligible before relying on a card-based payout option. Stripe sends payouts using the payout account details rather than the number printed on a prepaid card.
| Scenario | Is a prepaid card accepted? | What happens |
|---|---|---|
| A follower pays at checkout with an eligible prepaid card | Yes | The payment completes at checkout the same as with any other supported card. |
| A follower uses a closed-loop, single-store gift card | Not generally | A store-only card cannot be assumed to work through Visa, Mastercard, or Discover; acceptance depends on whether it is a Stripe-supported payment card |
| A creator selects a physical prepaid card as the payout destination | No | Stripe’s documented debit-card option requires a non-prepaid card issued by a US bank |
| A creator connects a supported bank account | Yes | Stripe uses the account and routing details rather than a prepaid card number |
What is the difference between a prepaid card and a gift card?
“Prepaid card” can describe more than one type of product:
- Open-loop prepaid cards carry a general payment-network logo, such as Visa, Mastercard, or Discover. Stripe treats stored-value and prepaid cards—including qualifying gift cards—as payment cards.
- Closed-loop gift cards work only with a particular store or merchant. Because they are not necessarily general-purpose Visa, Mastercard, or Discover payment cards, they should not be assumed to work at an unrelated online checkout.
The relevant question is whether the card operates through a payment network supported by Stripe and has enough balance for the transaction.
What can you do if you do not have a traditional bank account?
Some financial apps issue a card that feels like a prepaid product while also providing an underlying account number and routing number. If your provider gives you those bank-account details, you would connect the account details to Stripe—not the number printed on the card.
Whether a particular account is supported depends on the provider, the account type, and your country. Ask the provider whether the product can receive deposits through its routing and account numbers rather than assuming the accompanying card qualifies.
Brillay supports creator payouts in 41 countries, so check whether your payout country is on the supported list before signing up. If you live outside the United States, see how creators get paid outside the US for the available options where you live.
How do payments and payouts work on Brillay?
Follower payments and creator payouts are separate transactions:
- A follower pays at checkout. The follower checks out by card without creating an account. An eligible prepaid payment card can be used if Stripe supports its network and the card has sufficient funds. Followers pay by card as guests; see do followers need a PayPal account to pay a creator.
- The creator receives a payout. Brillay uses Stripe for creator payouts to the supported payout account connected during onboarding. The prepaid card used by a follower has no effect on the creator’s payout destination.
- No monthly fee, you only pay a small platform fee when you get paid. 8% platform fee when a follower pays for work, 5% platform fee on tips and goals. Card processing is separate. Followers pay upfront as guests when they send the request, so the request arrives already paid for, and your bank details stay with Stripe rather than with the buyer.
For request-based offers, collecting payment at checkout means there's no invoice to send or payment status to chase afterward.

Frequently asked questions
Can I use a prepaid Visa or Mastercard to pay a creator on Brillay?
Yes, as long as the card runs on a supported network such as Visa or Mastercard and has enough balance to cover the price; you pay upfront as a guest, with no account to create. Stripe says stored-value and prepaid cards, including gift cards, are processed as payment cards.
Can a creator receive Stripe payouts directly on a prepaid card?
No, not through Stripe’s documented debit-card payout option. Stripe requires that payout debit card to be a non-prepaid Visa, Mastercard, or Discover card issued by a US bank.
If a prepaid-card provider separately gives you supported bank-account and routing numbers, you may be able to connect those bank details instead. In that situation, the bank account—not the physical prepaid card—is the payout destination.
Does Brillay pay creators through PayPal, Cash App, or Venmo?
Brillay sends creator payouts through Stripe to the supported payout account connected during onboarding. A bank-style account associated with another payment service would still need to qualify as a supported Stripe payout account.
Is every gift card accepted at Brillay checkout?
No. Stripe processes qualifying prepaid and stored-value payment cards, including gift cards, but a single-store, closed-loop gift card is not necessarily a general-purpose card on a supported network. Look for a supported network such as Visa, Mastercard, or Discover and ensure the card has enough balance.
Put Paid Questions, Personalized Videos, and your other one-time offers behind one Brillay link: Create your free Brillay page. You set the price, followers check out without an account, and Stripe processing fees are deducted separately. A clear menu also makes asking less awkward because followers can choose a priced question, personalized video, or tip themselves.
