Compared by structure
How each tool is built, what Brillay does instead, and what that changes for you.
| Tool | What it is built around | What Brillay does instead, and what it means for you |
|---|---|---|
| Patreon | A membership: the smallest way to support you is still a monthly commitment with tiers and perks to maintain. | One thank-you, nothing owed back, no membership for either side — beside whatever else you run. |
| Ko-fi | A support page built for tips alone, so anything that needs a price, a scope or a delivery date has to live somewhere else. | Tips sit on the same link as your paid requests, so one page covers both the thank-you and the work. |
| Buy Me a Coffee | A tip jar built around small one-off thank-yous in set amounts. | A supporter picks a suggested amount or their own, and payouts go through your own connected Stripe account to your own bank. |
| Twitch / YouTube / TikTok tipping | Platform tipping built into one app, with its own eligibility rules and its own cut. | No follower minimum and nothing to unlock: your link works under every post, on every platform, and supporters pay as guests by card. |
| Linktree / Beacons | A link list that sends supporters somewhere else to pay. | The tip happens on your page, as a guest, with no account to create. |
Price
You set the price. Example: $3 is one default suggested amount for a new tip jar. Supporters can choose a suggested amount or enter a custom amount. No monthly fee, you only pay a small platform fee when you get paid. 8% platform fee when a follower pays for work, 5% platform fee on tips and goals. Card processing is separate.
Frequently asked questions
What are Tips on Brillay?
Tips let followers send a one-time thank-you, with nothing for you to deliver and no membership for them to join. Supporters pay by card from your creator link.
What do I owe after receiving a tip?
Nothing is owed back, and one clear link gives supporters a simple way to pay. A tip is a one-time thank-you.
How do supporters pay for Tips?
Supporters pay immediately by card as guests. No follower account needed.
Is there a minimum or maximum tip?
A tip runs from $1 to $10,000 in USD, with the equivalent range in other payout currencies. You set your own minimum on top of that floor — a new tip jar starts at $3 — and you choose the suggested amounts supporters see.
Can supporters leave a message or stay anonymous?
Both, if you allow it. A supporter can attach a short message with the tip and can choose not to show their name, and you decide whether messages and amounts appear publicly.
Can a tip be refunded?
Nothing is refunded automatically, because a tip carries no delivery obligation. You can choose to decline and refund one, and a supporter can still dispute the card charge with their bank.
Will supporters see my legal name when they tip?
No. A tip goes to your page under the public seller name you set, which is the name supporters see at checkout, on their bank statement and on their receipt. Stripe uses your legal name only to verify who you are and pay you out.
What does Brillay charge for Tips?
5% when a supporter tips, with no monthly fee. Card processing is separate.
Where can creators get paid?
Creators in 41 countries can get paid; followers pay by card from anywhere.
